Job Title: Preschool Co-Teacher, Nonotuck Community School

Location: Nonotuck Community School, 221 Riverside Drive, Florence MA

Nonotuck Community School is a full-time, full year EEC licensed, center-based early education and care program with five thriving classrooms. We care for children 15 months to 6 years in an environment that promotes self-esteem, creative thinking and individuality through a respectful partnership between children, parents and teachers. We are searching for a full time Preschool Co-Teacher to join our teaching team.

Children are prepared to be active learners at Nonotuck through an emergent, child-centered curriculum that encourages them to think, question, anticipate and predict. We emphasize the concept of community and teach children to celebrate their connections to one another. Nonotuck Community School is a parent cooperative, where families share ownership of the School. Upon enrollment, families take on co-op jobs to be caring stewards of the organization and facilities. The cooperative provides every family with the opportunity to participate in their child’s education and shape the learning environment. 

Position Summary:

Are you passionate about exploring young children's interests and building their social - emotional competence? Have you been looking for co-teachers and colleagues who also believe in an emergent curriculum for children birth to 5 years old?

Our curriculum is play-based, emotionally-sensitive, and inspired by progressive early childhood education theory. Knowledge in these areas is essential. Teachers are members of the union. 

Shift times: 7:45 - 3:45 and 8:30 - 4:30 Monday through Friday

Opening is available ASAP

Qualifications:

  • Teachers should be licensed by EEC, with a “Lead Teacher” or “Teacher” certification. 

  • 2- or 4-year degree

  • English fluency is required.

  • Basic computer skills, such as email, are important.

  • A background check and a writing sample are required.

  • All candidates must be documented as healthy to work with children and must be able to move freely in the classroom, including sitting on the floor. You must be able to lift a 30 pound child.

Compensation:

  • $21.82 - $24.08 per hour, based on EEC licensure and level of education

Job Title: Assistant Director - Nonotuck Community School

Nonotuck Community School is a full-time, full year EEC licensed, center-based early education and care program with five thriving classrooms. We care for children 15 months to 6 years in an environment that promotes self-esteem, creative thinking and individuality through a respectful partnership between children, parents and teachers. We are searching for a full time Assistant Director to augment the administrative team to fully support the staff, children and families of our unique community.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Assistant Director to support the daily operations and leadership at Nonotuck Community School. The ideal candidate will have a passion for early childhood education and a commitment to fostering a nurturing, safe, and developmentally appropriate environment for children and families to grow and thrive, as well as a positive, inclusive work environment for staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Director in overseeing daily operations, ensuring compliance with EEC regulations

  • Coordinate staff scheduling, and classroom coverage for teacher breaks and planning time, including stepping into classrooms to support coverage as needed

  • Assist with direct supervision, training and performance evaluations

  • Work with the Director to foster a positive and inclusive environment for children, families, and staff

  • Assist in observing classroom activities and provide coaching to teaching staff as needed

  • Work with the Director to monitor curriculum implementation and ensure classrooms meet quality standards

  • Work with the Director to address parent concerns or questions professionally

  • Work with the Director and the Parent Liaison to coordinate parent co-op jobs

  • Maintain accurate records, including attendance, children and staff files

  • Assist the Director in initiating and maintaining systems for ordering and organizing supplies, building maintenance, classroom equipment, materials, and consumables

  • Participate in monthly Board meetings, staff meetings, training sessions, and family engagement events, including occasional evenings and weekends.

Key Skills:

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities and communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Experience with successful conflict resolution strategies

  • Problem-solving mindset and ability to remain calm under pressure

  • Familiarity with child development assessments and quality improvement frameworks

  • Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives including DEI curriculum for early childhood

Reports To: Executive Director

Qualifications:

  • 2- or 4-year degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an early childhood education setting, including 1-3 years of supervisory or leadership experience

  • EEC Director I Certification (or eligible within 6 months of hire)

  • CPR and First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain as soon as possible after hire)

  • Knowledge of EEC licensing regulations and early childhood best practices

  • Ability to pass background checks and meet all EEC regulatory requirements
